The 4Cs of diamonds

To define the value of a diamond, four main criteria are taken into account: cut, clarity, colour and carat. Each C plays a key role in how a diamond is perceived, influencing both its appearance and its price. Here's how they apply to Maison Lepage's Audacieuse solitaire:

Cut

The cut of a diamond refers to the way in which it has been cut and polished from its rough form. This stage is the most important as it determines the diamond's appearance. At Maison Lepage, this is one of the main criteria we use to select our diamonds. A well-crafted cut maximises brilliance by allowing light to reflect and disperse through the diamond. Diamonds can take on different geometric shapes to enhance their brilliance, with the round and princess-cut shapes being the most commonly used in jewellery. The audacieuse setting creates a visual effect of levitation that maximises the diamond's brilliance.

Clarity

Clarity refers to the presence of inclusions, i.e. the size of impurities and blemishes in the diamond. The purer a diamond is, the fewer inclusions it contains that are visible to the naked eye, making it more valuable. In the case of the Audacieuse ring, the purity of the diamonds is of SI quality (Small Inclusions), which means that the inclusions are small and difficult to detect. This guarantees a high-quality diamond with imperfections that are invisible to the naked eye.

Colour

A diamond's colour is a crucial criterion in its evaluation at Maison Lepage. Diamond grading specialists give the stone a letter from D to Z (D being the highest grade and Z the lowest). From D to H, experts refer to white diamonds. From colour level I onwards, the stones have an increasingly yellowish tone. These colours guarantee a diamond of exceptional visual purity. At Maison Lepage, we adapt to our customers' requests.

Carat

The carat is a unit of measurement used to determine the weight of a diamond. A metric carat corresponds to 0.2 grams, so a 5-carat stone weighs 1 gram. The carat weight influences the size and rarity of the diamond; the heavier the diamond in carats, the rarer it is. The Audacieuse solitaire offers diamonds ranging from 0.20 carat to 1 carat, depending on the cut of the stone. This weight can have a direct influence on the value of the product. At Maison Lepage we adapt the carat to the customer's request.

HRD & GIA

At Lepage, we offer you diamonds of exceptional quality, certified by independent and internationally recognised laboratories: HRD or GIA. The HRD (Hoge Raad voor Diamant) and the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) are two of the most prestigious and recognised gemmological laboratories in the world for diamond valuation.
